Karen Comments on her time in Korea

After reflecting on our trip I've decided that I definitely want to go again.   Yes I shopped.  Yes I did some sightseeing.  Yes I had a good dose of laughter medicine with the other ladies.  BUT I also cuddled and fed gorgeous little babies and played with toddlers. YES I definitely felt rewarded for being able to help for such a short time.
My plan is to help Deb with the fundraising and participate in another trip.  If you've got the opportunity to save up and go on a trip like this, don't pass it up - No special skills required, just a little compassion and love to share.  Karen

Doctor was very excitied

Bottle Donations

We made an executive decision to buy some baby bottles to replace the over used ones that they had.
We were able to purchase 400 bottles.
But still not enough.
Will be returning to Eastern next March so any donations towards the purchase of more bottles would be appreciated.

Having a little rest

STAYED TUNED

Just got the green light we can go feed babies between 2pm and 3pm today.

Something different

Ice cream coffee! Carol and Leeza can highly recommend.

Out and about

Down in 3rd tunnel

This is a reinactment of how the 3rd tunnel was built. The yellow circles are where they put the dynamite. Tunnel is 1635 metres long and 2 metres wide and in some places 2 metres high but we had to wear hard hats due to the low roof in most places.
At the end of the tunnel it was only 300 metres to North Korea.
Sorry no photo's as cameras are not allowed.

Army guarding South Korea

This is 1 of many armed guard posts on our way to DMZ.
People try to swim from North Korea to South Korea.
Shoot first ask questions later!

DMZ

Demilitarized Zone.
Where some of the ladies got close and personal with Korean soldiers.
We got to go down in the 3rd Infiltration Tunnel which was dug by the North Koreans to invade South Korea.

Karen will try anything

Also drink out of anything.

Food was great

Seating was not good!

Getting ready for a traditional Korean BBQ

Nearly finished

Job well done and tasty

All working hard

Ingredients for sushi

Learning to make Sushi

Today we also learnt how to make sushi rolls with the unwed mothers.

Footpath Bazaar

We suggested moving the carpark Bazaar to the footpath for passing locals and did quite well.

Having another Bazaar

Today we had a carpark sale for all the Eastern staff.

Bazaar day

Bazaar day at Hyundai Department Store.
Not a very good day due to economic times and due to holding on a week day this year.

Eastern Welfare Centre Anyang

Today we got to help out with the babies at Eastern baby rooms and Hanbit Nuri's home at Anyang.
We could not take photo's today as these children still had mothers there and didn't want photo's taken of their children.
But we all got to help out feeding and looking after the children today.
It is heart wrenching to see a lot of these children are unable to stay with their birth mothers.

Today we went to Pyeongtaek to help with the children in Jacobs home.
We went on a picnic at a farm and also made cookies.
We were able to take 7 children for an outing, this doesn't happen unless they have helpers.
